![]() Welcome The detour is a non-commercial/non-profit community radio service based out of the Appalachia region serving the entire world. We feature four stations: detour MUSIC, detour TALK, detour XMAS, and detour LIVE. detour MUSIC is a free form radio station dedicated to taking away the boundaries that have been created in music. No matter if it’s indie or main stream, we play it all: alternative, rap, country, reggae, pop, bluegrass, techno, blues, new age, jazz, oldies, 80s, and more! Whatever we are in the mood for, we play it. Requests are always welcome by using requestNOW! or e-mailing the radio host. We give complete control of the station to the radio host. There is no program director; only complete and total freedom for not only the radio host, but also the listener! As part of our mission to broaden a listener's musical taste, every host is encouraged to play a variety of musical styles and genres (both main stream and independent). Rather than segregating music into limited boxes, this philosophy is an attempt to entertain the listener while broadening their musical experience. Specialized original and international shows will leave you wondering what you’ll be hearing next. For a complete schedule of detour MUSIC, click here. detour TALK focuses on progressive and independent talk programming. The station features a wide range of shows that deal with everything from politics to health, technology to environmental issues. Local programming is also featured, giving the host freedom of speech to say whatever they wish. Send your opinions in by shooting a message to the host, or call in! Several shows allow you to express your own opinions..so tune in and participate! For a complete schedule of detour TALK, click here. detour XMAS is our special commercial free holiday channel playing an eclectic variety of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza music from all genres of music. detour LIVE features live music and original programming from the Acoustic Coffeehouse in Johnson City, TN. Tune in each evening for a live performance from an indie artist. Click here for a schedule of upcoming performers (in the right column of the site). The region we focus on includes a region encompassing 13 states and 20 million people: (east Tennessee, southwest Virginia, west Kentucky, all of West Virginia, most of Pennsylvania, south New York, west Maryland, west North Carolina, west South Carolina, north Georgia, north Alabama, northeast Mississippi) [for a map of our "service area, please click here]. We are affiliated with the Pacifica Radio Network, bringing you great shows like Democracy Now and Exploration on detour TALK. We can be heard in a limited capacity on 105.3 (WETX-P15) in a few parts of Johnson City (around W. Walnut & downtown), Bristol, and Kingsport...or just tune in online!! The detour was created to give the Appalachia region an oppurtunity to get unheard music and a voice on the air. Any opinions or views expressed on any show may or may not reflect the views of the station or staff itself. Remember that some shows contain explicit (cursing) language, so viewer discrestion is advised occasionally! The detour's audio stream is commercial free. The advertisements that appear on the detour's web site help to pay for the web site space and internet connection.
*A very few of the nationally syndicated shows that the detour play may include a few commercials in their programs. These commercials are inserted by the individual show and not by the detour. The detour does not make any money from the airing of the commerical. The detour is a commerical free radio station, but leaves full control of a syndicated show to their creator to do what they wish.
